Music as a Significant Means for Speech Cultivation in Pre-School Children

This dissertation of an interdisciplinary character involves music education, music psychology, linguistics and special education. In the theoretical part of the thesis the author explains the term timbre from the musicological and linguistic perspective; characterizes timbre hearing as a musical hearing ability; introduces and compares timbre and phonemic hearing tests; describes the development of musicality and speech of pre-school children from an ontogenetic perspective, and emphasizes hearing atten- tion as a prerequisite for their advancement. The author also characterizes disruption of these abilities and describes reeducation therapies that involve elements of music education and mu- sic therapy. A field study described in the practical part of the thesis has a form of fundamental research and experiment. Research participants were 180 pre-school children. A field study is addressing the relationship between speech and musical manifestations of pre-school children with atypi- cal speech development. The aim of the experiment was to search for the most effective com- bination of music and language education with positive influence on both musicality and speech. Phonemic awareness development of children with developmental speech disorders at logopedic

The topic of the thesis is Phonemic awareness development of children with developmental speech disorders at logopedic nursery school. The thesis is divided into theoretical and empirical part. Theoretical part contains three chapters. The first one is dealing with specifics of preschool age. This chapter contains the definition of preschool age, communication, ontogenetical speech development, hearing perception and preschool education. The second chapter is dealing with impaired speech development, particularly with delayed speech development and developmental dysphasia. There is also description of etiological factors, symptoms, diagnostics and therapy. The third chapter is focused on phonological and phonemic awareness. This part mentions diagnostical materials whit which is possible to evaluate phonemic awareness qualities. Then are mentioned materials and activities specified for development of phonemic awareness. The last chapter presents empirical part of the thesis. The main purpose of the research is to analyze possibilities how to evolve phonemic awareness of the children with impaired speech development. Phonemic hearing in preschool-age

The diploma thesis deals with the problem of phonemic differentiation in preschool children. The introductory part is focused on the specifics of preschool age, ontogenesis of speech and characterization of phonemic hearing. The aim of this thesis is to determine the level of phonemic differentiation in children with cochlear implant and children without hearing impairment. The results were obtained using a standardized test battery Evaluation of Phonemic Hearing in Preschool Children by authors Škodová, Mischek and Moravcová from 1995, which is created for this issue. Subsequently, the results of both groups were compared and individual differences in performance between children with cochlear implant and children without hearing impairment were examined. Research has shown that better results in phonemic distinction amounted children without hearing impairment, although the difference in success rate between the two groups was not significant. The main benefit of this work is the fact that the ability of phonemic differentiation is important in children with cochlear implant and its development should be part of rehabilitation care. This work deals with the phonemic hearing level of pupils with partial disorders at lower and upper primary school. The theoretical part defines specific learning disabilities, deals with the causes of errors in reading and writing, auditory perception, phonemic hearing and memory. It monitors the development of specific learning disabilities of upper primary school pupils. In the partial part are processed standardized tests of Auditory Differentiation and Auditory Analysis and Synthesis by Jiřina Bednářová. Timbre and Phonemic of Pre-school Children

This thesis deals with the timbre and phonemic hearing concerning kids with normal language development. It contains two main sections presenting a theoretical outline and a practical research part. The theory discussed opens the question of the phonemic and timbre hearing development with the preschool kids. I am considering current and previous educational materials familiarizing the reader with the timbre and phonemic hearing regarding the preschool kids. The practical part describes the objectives, methods, process and the results of the basic field research that checks the level of timbre and phonemic hearing at preschool children with normal speech development. The aim of this work is to establish a link between phonemic and timbre hearing. Developement of phonemic hearing in kindergartens

TITLE: Development of phonemic hearing in kindergartens AUTHOR: Bc. Pavlina Matouskova DEPARTMENT: Department of Primary Education SUPERVISOR: PaedDr. Ehler, Ph.D. ABSTRACT The basic prerequisite for coping with educational skills, especially reading, is sufficient development of phonemic hearing in kindergarten. The improvement of the level of phonetic- phonological grade at preschool children can be provided with suitable equipment and methodology for teachers. The aim of the thesis is an analysis of phonemic hearing at children in the last year of preschool education and the related creation of own model of activities and aids. The level of phonemic hearing was carried among children from selected kindergartens. One of them focused on the development of phonemic hearing and worked with the proposed model and in the rest of the kindergartens the prevention of speech therapy was held in accordance with school curricula. Initial analysis was done at the beginning of the school year and comparing of results was done in the second half. The conclusion is an objective assessment of effectiveness of proposed actions in the practice.
